Japan is facing an aging crisis. 35% of their population is over 65. In rural areas, young people are fleeing their hometowns for urban metropolises; Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, leaving a lack of manpower to care for the elderly back home. This issue is no different in Kushimoto, a small city in Wakayama, Japan. A sea-side city with a population of 16,000, the population has slowly declined over the decades.
The thesis pro-posits aging as a relevant and healthful stage of life. Persons towards the end of their life invigorate, and are invigorated themselves with a plentiful abundance of activities and people in their day to day.
